Compare control, delivery work and economics before choosing what to promote.
Compare the responsibilities
With your own product, you can control more of the offer and customer experience, but you also carry the work of delivery, support and maintaining its accuracy. With an affiliate offer, another business usually delivers the product, while your recommendation and referral still affect your audience’s trust.
List the parts you actually control. You may control a video and its explanation but not a third party’s stock, checkout or return process. Build a plan that acknowledges those dependencies rather than promising an experience you cannot provide.
Use a simple worked example
Imagine a product sells for 30 units of currency and costs 18 to provide before advertising and other overhead. The remaining 12 is not automatically profit: support, payment costs, returns and acquisition may still need to be covered. This is a hypothetical calculation, not an expected result.
For an affiliate offer, compare the confirmed commission with the effort and permitted acquisition cost. A large percentage can still represent a small payment on a low-priced item. Use the program’s actual definitions for qualifying orders.
Choose the route that fits the problem you can solve and the work you can sustain. If neither offer is ready, improve the audience understanding or the product before increasing promotion.
Check your understanding
Is revenue minus product cost automatically the final profit? No. Other costs and adjustments may still apply.
